For centuries humans have inhabited the area that is now the South Downs National Park. Just at the bottom of our lane in a neighbouring field – the Boxgrove man was discovered. Amazingly, the Boxgrove man is believed to be the oldest human fossil found in Britain having lived here around 500,000 years ago.
Locally there are many places of interest. The Halnaker Windmill and Tree Tunnel which follows the old Roman Road to London are just over the road from our farm – so easily accessible. With magnificent views to the South Coast and the recently restored grade 2 listed Windmill at the top.
Kingley Vale – Woodland Trust These ancient Yew Trees are believed to be some of the oldest living things in the UK are well worth visiting if you like walking.
The landscape of the South Downs has evolved over millenia with the people and the demands placed on the land shaping how we find it today. Many ancient forests have been cleared, fortunately we still have wild forest to the East of our farm and their are footpaths through it by which you can walk to Eartham in less than an hour.
The George Pub at Eartham is well worth a visit, being very well kept and with excellent service, craft beers, a fabulous menu and superb chef’s. Best to book in advance to avoid disappointment!
The Tinwood Estate and visitor centre is in the middle of the village, they produce and purvey superb English Sparkling wine and offer fantastic tasting sessions most days by appoinment.
The Goodwood Hotel is a spa hotel with health club, pool, golf course and numerous restaurants just a few of minutes drive away. Goodwood Aerodrome and Motor Racing Track are just a bit further down the road as well as the World renowned Goodwood Horse Racing course. However if you don’t fancy a hotel – then our holiday cottage is situated very close to the Goodwood Estate
Fontwell Horse Racing Course is less than 10 minutes away.
Whilst you are with us you can also try our local honey naturally created by our bees in the South Downs National Park.
